stickers showing the greater context of the project for my own fashion and beauty blog
This project consists of six magazines combined into a collector´s shopping bag. The photos are all taken by me of lovely people that I talked to on the streets of Berlin.

Thank you to everyone who agreed to be a part of this project. I hope that you like it as much as I do! ♥

In the beginning of this project, I asked myself what makes the city I live in, Berlin, so exciting to me. I could´t help but immediately think about fashion. It´s well known that Berlin is a fashion capital and that is not only present during fashion week, but everyday on the streets. That is why I created the project “361€ – an observation of berlin´s fashion”. My goal was to study different trends apparent in the city. I took streetstyle pictures of many people in different districts of Berlin and asked them about their outfits as well as their personal styles. Then, I combined the results and created six magazines – one for each district.

Of course, this project is also an examination of stereotypes. Is Charlottenburg really all about that luxury life and are the Kreuzberger´s in fact the most alternative? Or is there actually no difference at all?

external look

Instead of combining all of the districts into one magazine, I decided to make one for each. That way, the individually designed contents are easy to compare. Additionally, I liked the idea of the magazines coming back together as a whole in the packaging – just like Berlin´s districts.

All of the magazines are created in a way that represents the fashion and trends in the regarding district best. But there are some similarities to make sure that they can be recognized as a series. The format as well as the sans serif font are inspired by typical fashion magazines. The covers are all showing different patterns and stickers that show the titles, that are the average price of an outfit in each district. The bindings are artful japanese techniques that do not only give the magazines more texture with the thread, but also enabled me to use internal spaces in between the folded pages as an added design element.

content design

The first pages differ in color and font, but are aligned in the same grid. Another similarity in all the magazines is that the pages with the streetstyle photography all follow the same design pattern. The pictures are shown quite largely, but with enough white space around them to display the outfit descriptions and prices as well as the Instagram handles of the models. Also, there is a number that matches the picture to what the person wrote down about their personal style on the last site of each magazine.

Additionally, there are some spreads on which I creatively dealt with the different trends that varied quite a lot from district to district. I focused on patterns and fabrics, created collages using articles of clothing as well as accessories and also made use of different quotes to get the mentality of each district across.

packaging and context

All of the magazines are combined in a white shopping bag that displays the same prices that are shown on the individual covers. There is also a sticker on the back – as there is on every last page of the magazines – that explain the bigger context of the project. They are the beginning of the “style studies by fashionprompter.com (my own fashion and beauty blog). I am excited to do more style studies in the future.
