between

a photographic approach to dealing with insecurities and entangled thoughts in my 20s

Maybe it would be time to give in, to embrace the waves of change as they come crashing in. Diving into them, not thinking about when I can breathe again.

I just think that after all, the in-between isn’t so bad.

excerpt from “Cocoon”

“Between” is a photographic collection of my very own errors, recollections and thoughts.

The idea stems from the realization that honesty and relentless authenticity are rarely found in media. On Instagram, everybody curates a “perfect” life and image for themselves. And I am no exception – because I care about people’s perception of me. But what I care about more is a deep connection with those people. And that deep connection requires honesty and sometimes hurtful conversations about dreams, fears, love and failure.

With “between”, I challenge the norm by exploring and opening up about my deepest, most secret thoughts and issues with the help of self portraits and creative writing. I make myself vulnerable, but also empower myself on a deep level. To be able to do so, my main objective was to be as honest as possible with myself and all readers, to not censor the embarrassing, hurtful and wounded parts of myself. Although the photographs are laboriously staged, all concepts originate from an honest emotion.

The magazine specifically depicts my inner ongoings from age 20 to 22. But with a lot of input from older outside sources, I hope to have created a universally relevant magazine.

“Between” stands for personal development through showing own weaknesses. It also brings awareness to common humanly issues. I see it as an “ode to vulnerability”.
