Our feminist collection does not solve the many problems women have to face on the daily, but we were able to create conversation starters, which are easy to wear. We decided that pins would be perfect because they are such an easy accessory to style. Everyone has some sort of jacket or bag that a pin can look fabulous on!
the topics
The topics that we chose to address should all be familiar to women. We have two future-oriented pins that invoke the wearer to form a strong feminist unity. Also, we wanted to call attention to the fact that most people suffering from anxiety are female. As someone suffering from this myself, I know that it can be difficult to put that in words, even if talking about it can help a lot. Therefore, we wanted to create a piece that would evoke questions. This is also true for our “self love” piece. It is probably the most outgoing pin of the collection. But we thought that it was important to include something connected to sex because it can be a big part of one´s identity as well. The Madonna pin does not only have a beautiful message, but can also be understood as appreciation art.
the design
The pins measuring 2,5cm on their longest side all show clear lines. That way, the overall look is quite modern. To make the topic clear immediately, we stuck to a stereotypically feminine color scheme. The font used is playful, but easy to read. With those guidelines, we focused on finding symbols that were universally understandable. We show several women and floral motifs because they were feminine and we could picture many people wanting to wear those designs.
